From the Mooncircles website--
Astrologers will be keeping their eyes on Mars throughout 2003, as it's squared by the Sun in April, opposed by the Sun in June, goes retrograde from July through September, and conjoins Uranus twice, in June and September/October. These aspects indicate volatile times, with high tension, the potential for accidents, reversals and breakdowns-also the capacity to work through tough issues. This is also a year when Mars may be even more spectacular in the sky than in astrologers' ephemerides. On August 27, 2003 Mars will be closer to earth than it's been in 73,000 years. From the end of July through September, Mars will be brighter than any other object in the sky (besides of course the Sun and Moon). To get full visual benefit from this celestial event, you can start tracking Mars' growing brightness this month. In the Northern Hemisphere, you'll find it rising around 2:00 am in the eastern-southeast. In June it will rise closer to midnight and by the end of August it will cross above the horizon at eight in the evening. Be like an ancient sky watcher and commune with the Red Planet in the coming months. Even as the world scene is filled with stress, let's not miss the encouraging messages Mars might also be bringing. No humans have seen this sight before-may it embolden our desire for unusual solutions to ancient human problems.
