Aloha,

This will be our last email of the year! We want to thank you for your interest in Jesseís Music and coffee.
Hereís a word from Jesse...

I've been touring solo for years. Recently I've been writing very bluesy, rockin' songs and thinkin' that I want to play these songs with a band. For years I been wanting to stretch my guitar playing abilities, especially electric slide. "Stretch out, Jesse! What would
your dream band be?" I asked myself.
The answer came to me one night in a dream. I was playing on stage, rockin' to my heart's content. I looked to one side and there was Cheyenne Young playin' bass. I looked to the other side and there was my godson Ethan Turner playin' drums. And I was playin' beautiful guitar solos and singin' my heart out. I called the boys the next day to see if they were interested in playin' with Dad.
"Send us tapes," they said. "We need to check the music out." I was being scrutinized by my own blood!! They dug the music and the idea. We were off and runnin'.

My sons learned to play music as teenagers in my laundry room which was at the very end of the house for obvious reasons! As young men they formed a band called Scrunt which became very popular in Marin County and the Bay Area. They were a great rhythm section then and I hoped we could rekindle some of that magic playing together.

Rehearsals began in May of last year although the technical work began much earlier. We had planned to use ear monitors so that we could be sure to hear each other distinctly no matter where we played. Ethan designed a portable system for us with the help ofthe folks at Furman audio. We also wanted to be able to premix on stage because we would be travelling and playing as a trio....just
the 3 of us with no roadies or tour manager or anyone else! A very ambitious project....a lot of work. I knew the boys could handle but could I stand it? We would just have to find out.
to be continued.......

---------From Jesse---------
Aloha from the Kona Coast and Happy New Year! Coffee season is almost pau [finished] and I have been concentrating on the mixing my future album called tentatively "Young Blood" Father and Sons otherwise known as "Dad Rocks Out with Da Boys." Cheyenne, Ethan and I recorded this fall here in Kona at my little studio and I have been working on the overdubs ever since. So far only the three of us on the album but we hope to have some interesting guest appearances. The music is a mix of 8 new songs with the addition of 6 "classic" tunes, as they call them now, like Sunlight, Darkness Darkness, and Get Together. It has been a stretch for me to play all the guitars on the album but it has made me grow in leaps and bounds as a musician. Can't wait for you to hear it but we need to finish it first.

Last week I also recorded 12 Christmas carols with just classical guitar at 5am when the farm is quiet. I have wanted to do this for 3 years and it's finally happening. We have a wonderful community chorus here and I think I will use them on some of the carols. The New Year Year seems to be off to a flying start for me. I hope this is true for all of you out there.

All the best till we talk again,

Jesse
